curiosity saves us
Since when did healing become a gimmick? It's everywhere.Every business is selling some form of healing. Certain movie stars sell old healing ways and tools for absurd profit. During gay pride every single business is suddenly an ally or queer. Not to mention the white-washing of traditional practices globally. But why? Why is there this reach of capitalism to meet the emotional needs of folks?
We are in a new pandemic, and no, not COVID, but the pandemic of loneliness. Due to our crippling inability to escape individualism that our society has built its foundation upon. So the need the market must fill is loneliness. Yet, we must heal, but what does that even mean?
Obviously, something different for everyone. I think in general healing means becoming curious about yourself. Feeling safe enough inside of your environment to ask big questions of yourself. To not demand change to reach a goal, yet to establish what life or goals the new version of you requires to have fulfillment. Yet, if we don't have safety. We can not look ahead. We will always be stuck in our surviving mentalities.
When we can focus on safety then there is a plethora of space for us to notice. Healing truly is mindfulness. It is the act of questioning why our behaviors, our body, our beliefs are the way they are. There is no right or wrong way. You don't need tools. You need space. You need safety. You never NEED to become something different or more. When we are curious and safe, you naturally change. It is evolution. No one should remain the same. We have too much to become, too much to give! Time is our ultimate tool.
Humans and community are also an ultimate resource. We can see ourselves in the mirror of others. Yet, we are so isolated. So my call is to challenge you. Find yourself in environments that are different. Meet new folks. Take a class, a workshop, try something new. Share yourself in the moments you inhabit with the people around you. Become curious about yourself, about others. Find who you are within that mirror- wherever you can access it. Hold off on the candle purchase-and the inner critic. Think more of resources to challenge yourself and fortify your mind and spirit. We are all on this path, as long as we are lucky enough to be in this life. Let's support each other instead of continually separating ourselves. Happy healing.
